Cairo; The Expanding metropolis.

I have always been fond of finding out how everything became what it is now, what happened to shape it, what events have passed that made it. Exactly Like how little details can shape someone's personality, the same with cities. It was always a little bit dull for me to look into places that had no history, no culture, no character and no theory to it's being.

The nowadays buildings are but merely concrete blocks that managed to have a few holes in their facades, having no character and no function more than to be easier and cheaper to copy and build. which made them for me a little bit harder to accept .
I decided to search the online courses and found a few that might be helpful.

Theory Of City Form

The first would be a course given by a professor called Julian Beinart whom I found later gave this course with Kevin Lynch at MIT and continued to teach it till 2013 but then he was retiring but MIT decided to record it as they thought the course was more important than to be missed by the next generations, The prof has some interesting theories of his own and ask questions that can make you wonder a little bit more.
Here's a Link to the course if anyone is interested about finding out more.

Designing Cities

This course is given by the university of Pennsylvania on Coursera, It  might be a little bit easier to absorb, the first two weeks of the course is about the evolution of cities and the Ideas that shaped it, but later discuss more ideas that concern planning a city.

Cairo; The assignment.

In the Designing cities course first week you're asked to handle in an assignment where you explain the evolution of your city from It's small form to a megalopolis where most cities are nowadays, so I started looking a little bit into Cairo's evolution over the years and here's what I found out in the simplest way possible.
